Amenity: Wildlife
Sixty-01 has been home to four (pinioned) English Mute swans, the oldest of which—named Gus—lived here from the early 1980s. Molly arrived in 1998 and later that year, Joe. For several years, Gus (pictured) and Molly lived together on Northlake, and in 2000, on Memorial Day weekend, became the proud parents of a little cygnet, now named Junior. (Molly died in 2001 from surgery complications, and Gus in 2008 from heart problems and severe arthritis.) Currently, on any given day, Joe and Junior can be found gracefully plying the smooth waters of Swan Lake.
The three lakes provide a comfortable home for a large population of carp and sunfish, as well as many species of waterfowl. Regulars are Mallard ducks, Great Blue herons, cormorants and kingfishers.
Depending on the season and the weather, you'll find cormorants; the Common, Hooded and Red-breasted Merganser; American widgeon; Canada goose; coot; the occassional seagull or American Bald Eagle; and even Osprey, which nest nearby!
